The closing ceremony of the Chinese (Guangzhou) Lawyers Cultural Festival kicked off in the Sun Yatsen Memorial Hall to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Guangzhou Lawyers Association. Doctor Judy Lin, the co-founder of Yang & Lin Co Law Firm, was awarded the “Top Ten Foreign-related Barristers In Guangzhou” (Only two female lawyers were awarded this honor) and was invited to attend the closing ceremony of the Festival and award ceremony of the “Top Ten Foreign-related Barristers In Guangzhou” on 8 September.
“Top Ten Foreign-related Barristers In Guangzhou” was professionally selected by the Guangzhou Lawyers Association. The selection was launched in June 2018, taking almost 3 months to screen out ten Foreign-related Barristers In Guangzhou. As a leading model in foreign-related legal service and in the field of admiralty and maritime in Guangzhou, Yang & Lin has made due contributions to foreign-related legal service industry in Guangzhou and spared no efforts to develop the industry. The law firm has been long recommended as one of the “Leading Law Firms on foreign-related legal service and in the field of admiralty and maritime in Southern China”. Ms. Lin (double master and double doctoral degree) from Yang & Lin stood out for her outstanding ability and contributions in foreign legal services and won the honorary title of “Top Ten Foreign-related Barristers In Guangzhou”. The honor highlighted Yang & Lin’s competitiveness and influence in the foreign-related business. Yang & Lin was awarded the “National Excellent Law Firm” as early as 2016, and received consistent recognition and high praise from the industry.
Ms. Lin’s remarkable performance in foreign-related legal services made her one of the first leading Chinese foreign-related lawyers and a member of the cross-border legal talent pool of the “Belt and Road established by the All China Lawyers Association. As one of the four project team leaders of the “Belt and Road” Legal Research Center of the Guangdong Lawyers Association, and the director of the “Belt and Road” legal professional committee of the Guangzhou Lawyers Association,
Ms. Lin commenced in 2017 the research program on the comparison of the maritime management laws of five ASEAN countries. This program of the Ministry of Transport of the PRC marked the first paid cooperative project entered into by the “Belt and Road” Legal Research Center of the Guangdong Lawyers Association and Guangdong MSA (outside unit). Overcoming massive difficulties, Ms. Lin personally led the team in collecting information and doing research in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. The data collection and translation work was successfully completed and relevant materials were preliminarily compiled into a book. The accomplishment at the first stage was highly praised and acknowledged by leaderships of the provincial MSA and Guangdong Lawyers Association. The program was of great significance for promoting the reform and improvement of China's maritime management system.
Since 2016, Ms. Lin has actively participated in the translation and compilation of the Russian and Argentine legal environment reports in the “Belt and Road” country research program by the All China Lawyers Association. The report on Russia has been published and received unanimous praise from The Ministry of Justice and the legal industry across the country. The publication became a highlight of the work of the All China Lawyers Association in 2017, and was praised and acknowledged in the project summary session on the “Belt and Road” held by the All China Lawyers Association in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. In 2018, the translation and compilation of the study on Investment Legal Environment in Argentina was successfully completed.
Since 2016, Ms. Lin has been playing an active role in co-hosting a series of sharing activities on the investment environment of countries along the “Belt and Road”, which has already become a brand activity of the Guangdong and Guangzhou Lawyers Associations. Under the guidance and support of Liang Zhen, vice director of the Guangdong Bureau of Justice, and leadership of the provincial and municipal lawyers associations, and in the name of the “Belt and Road” legal professional committee, Ms. Lin co-hosted the first “Belt and Road” seminar on Thailand’s investment environment, the third seminar (English) on the investment environment of Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, the fourth seminar on Netherlands and the fifth seminar on Hong Kong (10 July). The seminar series integrated foreign and domestic investment laws, policies and practices, helped enterprises to better understand the legal risks in overseas investment, and strengthened cooperation among different countries in legal service with broader horizons and higher goals. At the same time, the sharing seminars set up a platform for cooperation between entrepreneurs and lawyers, which would be a great help to resolve the investment problems and other issues concerning “going global” faced by Chinese enterprises. It had great and good influence in the international arena. After Ms. Lin was awarded, she said in an interview, “The title is more of a spur for me. It urges a sense of honor and sense of mission as a foreign-related lawyer, and entrusts with me more social responsibility and historical mission.” Ms. Lin said that she would keep leading the foreign-related lawyers of Yang & Lin to make progress in foreign-related legal field, to provide clients with professional and high-quality legal services, to make contributions to the refinement and modernization of high-end Guangzhou foreign-related legal service, and to practically support the “Belt and Road” initiative.
