Sino-British Round-table Conference on the Rule of Law was successfully held in Guanlan Lake Hotel, Haikou, on 15 Nov 2018.
In February 2018, Chairman Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Theresa May, and proposed China and the UK to jointly build an enhanced "Golden Age", push the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries to a new level, and forge mutually beneficial cooperation from a wider range, with higher quality and at higher and deeper level within the framework of the "Belt and Road". This conference was held to carry out the talks of the leaders between the two countries, provide legal guarantees for the "golden age" of Sino-British relation, and facilitate the construction of the "Belt and Road".
The conference was
held by the China Law Society and the Great Britain-China Centre (UK). Some 120
guests attended the conference, including representatives from the UK, the
China Law Society, supreme people’s courts, Hainan
Higher People’s Court, judicial
administrative bodies, universities, etc.
Director
Yang Yunfu of this law firm was appointed by the Shipping Law Research
Association of Guangdong Law Society to attend the conference. Mr. Yang is the
vice chairman of the Association. Hou Guobin, Cheng Limin and he co-wrote a
paper titled Strengthening the Arbitration Legal Cooperation Service between
China and the UK under the Framework of the Belt and Road – on the Appeal
Mechanism of the British Maritime Arbitration Award. The paper was collected
into the essay collection of the conference.
The conference was a
great success with fruitful results.
