In 2010, the Supreme People’s Court drafted and enacted the “Regulations of the Supreme People’s Court on Trial of Dispute Cases over Damages for Ship-induced Oil Pollution” (hereinafter referred to as “the judicial interpretation of ship-induced oil pollution”). As the expert invited by the Civil Trial No. 4 Tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court (only three lawyers were invited all over the country), the director of our law firm Mr. Yang Yun Fu attended the discussion meeting held by this tribunal about the judicial interpretation of ship-induced oil pollution. Mr. Yang was very familiar with and had a very good understanding about the contents of the judicial interpretation.
On 10 January 2011, the Supreme People’s Court passed the judicial interpretation of ship-induced oil pollution. The judicial interpretation came into force as of 1 July 2011.
On 12 October 2011, at the invitation of PICC Shenzhen Branch, Mr. Yang gave a lecture on “A Brief Analysis of the Regulations of the Supreme People’s Court on Trial of Dispute Cases over Damages for Ship-induced Oil Pollution”. The participants include the personnel of the Law Department, Claims Department and Ship Insurance Department of PICC Shenzhen Branch and some shipowners. The lecture achieved good results and the participants spoke highly of the lecture.
